Phoenix Technologies partners with Advantech to offer innovative SSD tool

CAMPBELL, California, August 15, 2023 – Phoenix Technologies, a leading independent firmware supplier for PCs and computing devices, has signed an agreement to supply its SecureWipeTM technology to Advantech, a leading provider of industrial flash storage solutions.

Phoenix Technologies and Advantech worked collaboratively to produce an SSD security software tool, SQErase, which is based on Phoenix’s SecureWipeTM technology. SQErase can delete sensitive data to the exacting standards of the most demanding customers including the military, finance, healthcare, and government.

Advantech chose to leverage Phoenix’s SecureWipeTM technology for a variety of reasons including the maturity of the technology and ease of integration. Although SecureWipeTM was customized for this application, the core software has been used for over half a decade by many global computer OEMs.

This engagement with Advantech is the first time that SecureWipeTM has been used with an industrial grade storage product as opposed to the local storage in a computer or laptop. This potentially opens a new frontier for SecureWipeTM in the $301 billion SSD flash market and beyond.

The technology operates at the firmware level and uses industry standard UEFI interfaces which greatly simplifies integration by making the solution operating system agnostic.

Gerard Moore, President and CEO of Phoenix Technologies, said:

“This agreement extends further our capabilities into the firmware tools area and demonstrates the ingenuity of our engineers to develop and deliver value beyond our core business. This is expected to be a significant growth area for Phoenix by partnering with other device manufacturers to offer innovative solutions.”

“It comes shortly after we launched FirmGuard, a cloud-based, firmware cybersecurity product, targeted at managed service providers (MSPs), which will also be offered to large enterprise and government organizations.”

“These two developments solidify our leading position and equally importantly significantly broadens our capabilities and revenue streams from a wider range of customers.”
